Garden Update!

28 Jun

I’m finding that the older I get, the more I crave the simple things from my childhood.  A garden full of veggies, home-grilled meals, homemade jam… I grew up in a small town, on a large lot at the edge of town with a corn field behind the yard.  We had a huge garden for several years and I remember growing cauliflower & broccoli, lettuce, asparagus, tomatoes, peas, beans, carrots, cucumbers and potatoes.  I remember my mom, her friends, and my grandma freezing and canning tomatoes and sweet corn and various types of pickles.

You might remember my first garden post, here.  I’m excited to report that our efforts at gardening are starting to pay off!

The tomatoes are flourishing:

The cukes & zukes are flowering:

The peppers are budding:

The potatoes are bushing:

The herbs are a’plenty:

And the beans… well, the beans are under attack from the neighborhood bunnies:

It’s a sad state of affairs, really.  We spray Liquid Fence on the plants to try to deter the bunnies (and man does it stink!).  Alas, they’re brave little buggers and cannot be deterred.  They regularly hop into the yard while L and I are sitting there watching.

So far, we have one, sad, lonely bean:

Hopefully more will grow, soon!

Tell us, how is your garden growing this summer?  Is anything thriving?  Being attacked by neighborhood critters?
